Is this rock climbing outing appropriate for beginners?
Yes, absolutely! No prior climbing experience is required. Our expert guides specialize in introducing first-timers to the sport in a supportive, step-by-step manner, teaching you all the foundational skills needed to feel confident on the rock.
What is the duration of the rock climbing trip?
Each private rock climbing outing runs strictly for 4 hours. We offer two convenient daily time slots to fit your schedule: a Morning session from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and an Afternoon session from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Is this a group class or a private trip?
All Apex Mountain School climbing outings are 100% private. There are no strangers added to your reservation. It will strictly be your designated group and your professional guide(s).
Do I need to bring or rent my own climbing gear?
No rental fees are required for technical equipment! We provide all necessary technical gear at no extra cost, including premium climbing shoes, certified helmets, harnesses, ropes, and hardware.
What kind of climbing routes will we experience?
We guide a vast array of routes ranging from 35 to 90 feet in height. Because the Vail Valley features a diverse mix of rock types and angles, your guide will select specific cliffs that match your group’s comfort, physical goals, and experience level.

Phase 1: Welcome & Professional Gear Fitting Meet your private guide directly at our designated location or trailhead for an introduction, an overview of the day’s objective parameters, and a custom fitting for your climbing shoes, harness, and helmet.

Phase 2: The Approach Hike Enjoy a short, scenic warm-up hike through the beautiful Vail Valley trail system to reach the day’s designated climbing crag.

Phase 3: Custom Climbing & Technical Instruction Hit the rock! Your session is completely tailored to your experience. Beginners will focus on climbing movement, fundamental footwork, knot-tying, and clear communication commands. Advanced climbers can dive into vertical efficiency, lead-belaying, or specific movement techniques.

Phase 4: Wrap-Up & Debrief After squeezing in your final vertical climbs of the day, your guide will provide a personalized recap and specific movement notes to carry forward into your next climbing adventure.
